La tsuka est en soi un élément essentiel de la monture du sabre. La sécurité de son maniement et son efficacité dépendra de sa bonne fabrication. Elle est le lien entre la lame et le sabreur.
La tsuka est le résultat complexe de l’association de plusieurs éléments aux propriétés complémentaires :
-1 Son âme est en bois de honoki. Un bois tendre, hydrophobe et non acide.
-2 Cette âme est recouverte de peau de raie séchée appelée Samekawa. Cette peau confère à la tsuka toute sa rigidité et sa solidité.
-3 Puis en dernière couche, on réalise le tressage qui habille la tsuka est confère a celle-ci une aptitude à la préhension sans égale.
Aux extrémités on trouve des éléments de métal ou de corne noire (fuchi & kashira) et sous la tresse une pair d’éléments décoratifs, les menuki.
The tsuka itself is an essential part of the sword mount. The safety of its handling and its effectiveness will depend on its good manufacture. It is the link between the blade and the swordsman. The tsuka is the complex result of the association of several elements with complementary properties:
-1 Its soul is made of honoki wood. A soft, hydrophobic and non-acidic wood.
-2 This soul is covered with dried stingray skin called Samekawa. This skin gives the tsuka all its rigidity and solidity.
-3 Then in the last layer, we realize the wrapping which dresses the tsuka and gives it an unrivaled ability to grip.
At the ends there are elements of metal or black horn (fuchi & kashira) and under the braid a pair of decorative elements, the menuki.
